Automated Phantom Analysis for Diagnostic Ultrasound

Ultrasound quality assurance ensures system performance over time and catches degradation in image quality before it affects the diagnostic value of the clinical ultrasound exam.  Yet, establishing a QA program can be time consuming and cumbersome. Worse, many system parameters must be subjectively measured, resulting in a high degree of inter-observer variability.

UltraiQ solves these problems with easy-to-use software that can be purchased with the General Purpose or Multi-Purpose, Multi-Tissue Ultrasound Phantom. It objectively measures ultrasound image QA parameters and provides faster, more accurate assessments. UltraiQ quantitatively and automatically evaluates dynamic range, axial resolution, lateral resolution, caliper distance, dead zone, and depth of penetration.

UltraiQ Software can be used with any ultrasound system. Customizable reporting and trending functions make it easy to monitor system performance over time. The intuitive user interface provides guidance for making measurements. After the initial set-up, subsequent measurements can be automatically performed within minutes.

UltraiQ is a five minute quality assurance software tool for ultrasound transducers. Multiple large scale assessments of transducers have proven that up to 40% of the ultrasound transducers in clinical use are damaged. With the use of UltraiQ, these defects could have been detected and resolved at an early stage. Misdiagnosis due to a damaged transducer has also occurred.

With its easy to use interface and compatibility with numerous national and international guidelines for QA, the software tool is a must-have if you want fast, standardized and strictly objective quality assurance. UltraiQ was developed in house by Cablon Medical B.V., and the development of the software program continues constantly as new methods and guidelines become available.

Description

The uniformity phantom is used for the most simple and quick tests. For example, an uniformity phantom may be used to determine whether your transducers has weak elements. This type of test is often referred to as an Image Uniformity test. Weak or dead piezoelectric elements may cause problems such as decreased axial and lateral resolution, decreased depth of penetration and decreased low contrast performance.

Features

The UltraiQ uniformity phantom is designed for the widely recognized uniformity tests. The soft material of the Cablon UltraiQ Uniformity phantom allows you to easily couple any type of transducer. Simply capture a few images or a cineloop while moving the transducer over the phantom, and export the images to UltraiQ for analysis. UltraiQ will tell you if there are any weak or dead elements, as well as their positions. Visual assessment of the image is also possible, but is much less accurate.

This phantom is compatible with any 2D transducer (frequency 2-20MHz).

Suitable for:

UltraiQ Desktop and UltraiQ Online

Description

UltraiQ offers rubber-based phantoms. Using the UltraiQ general purpose phantoms, you can for example determine the contrast and depth of penetration of your transducer. There is an UltraiQ general purpose phantom for any type of 2D transducer.

Features

The UltraiQ general purpose phantoms set is specially designed for an optimal workflow. All types of targets can be captured in one image. This phantom is compatible with any 2D ultrasound transducer (frequency 2-15MHz) as well as elastography transducers and FibroScan devices. A fast and accurate analysis of the captured image in UltraiQ tells you the following image quality parameters:

  • Contrast / Dynamic range
  • Axial resolution
  • Lateral resolution
  • Distance accuracy
  • Penetration Depth
  • Elasticity

By repeating these tests frequently, changes in performance can be detected at an early stage.
